Meeting the Active Club Manager – Lena Kelly
Lena Kelly has been our Active Club manager for 25 years. I caught up with Lena to chat to her about the active club.
When joining Ferrycarrig Active Club what can you expect?
We have created the most energising club in Wexford.
Once you join our club, you are anything but another number. Firstly you will receive a full consultation with a qualified instructor. Secondly we will anaylse your current fitness levels, identify issues and challenges and thirdly continually motivate you towards achieving your goals. At Ferrycarrig Active Health & Fitness Club our gym is fully equipped with TechnoGym equipment. Our 20m swimming pool includes a shallow kid’s pool. We have a sauna, steam room & jacuzzi that looks out over the stunning River Slaney for you to sit back and relax post work-out.
Should we be setting goals before we start exercising?
Goals are very important. You should set realistic and gradual short term goals that when combined will equate to your longer term goal. This is exceptionally important as some people who set unrealistic goals quickly lose motivation and their exercise regime will be short and ineffective. This of course is the same in all walks of life, wether you are learning a new language, skill or embarking on an exercise regime ensure you set small, smart realistic goals. Goals keep you motivated and driven. They create an achievement map that you can look back on and be proud of.

The hardest part in starting is the start itself. Once you have committed we will make you feel welcome and tailor our facilities to how you like to workout. If you are a lone wolf we will develop a programme to your individual goals and needs. If you like to workout with others and need that motivation, we have an amazing range of classes for you to choose from.
What type of classes are available here?
We have a great range of classes available:
Spin, aqua, boxercise, HIIT, zumba, spin & abs, step & sculpt, active shred, body pump, stretch & flex and warrior circuit.
If you are a member you can enjoy these classes for free and non-members can pay €8 per class. The benefit of attending our classes is you can achieve great results in a fun environment where everyone is working together to achieve similar goals. We also have Tai Chi, Yoga and swimming lessons available.
Is it a good idea to bring a training buddy?
Absolutely! Training buddies can be great for keeping you motivated during your workout. Friends will often motivate each other firstly to attend and secondly to increase exercise performance. Training together can also make working out a lot more enjoyable and motivating.
Do you recommend changing your exercise regime?
Yes! Doing the same things every time you exercise can get very boring and less challenging. It is very important to change your form of training methods. We recommend our clients change exercise plan every 4-6 weeks. A small tweak to a programme can help maintain motivation.
What is the best time of the day to exercise?
This is unique for each individual. Some people find that first thing in the morning is the best time as it kick starts their day. Others find that later on in the afternoon is the most beneficial as their body is fully alert and ready for exercise. It is important that individuals realise what time of the day they are capable of exercising to their maximum capacity so they can perform to their optimal level.
